Reports Assam Survival Strategies

THE recent competitive bandh and blockade mongering by the ruling Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and its progenitor, the All-Assam Students Union (AASU), makes sense only when viewed in the context of the ensuing elections in Assam for the state assembly and the fourteen Lok Sabha seats for which elections could not be held last November. The life of the present assembly is due to expire by the end of this year and both the AGP leaders and central leaders have drop-ped enough hints to suggest that the elec-tions for both the assembly and the Lok Sabha seats from the state will be held before the end of November.
