members of the village 'dalit' community who are labourers on their lands. Given this psychology, it is difficult for these students to accept a 'dalit' class-mate on an equal footing. Some among these upper and middle caste students might even look down upon their 'dalit' classmates as upstarts, enjoying privileges under the reservation policy. Their violent reaction to the reservation policy could be partly traced to this psychology.
