For Socialist Freedom Students' Movement in China THE June 4 massacre at Beijing's Tiananmen Square has brutally exposed the fact that there are many Communists in the world today who refuse to see socialism as a preferred path to freedom. For them every opposition within a socialist system is a capitalist sabotage, every dissent is a conspiracy against the Party and every mass challenge is a counter-revolutionary uprising to overthrow the system. Such an obsession which is often justified to save the revolution and build the economy has sometimes actually weakened the socialist system. It has sharply divided the Communist Party and people at large.
