While Dhillon has raised this issue of optimal crop pattern under irrigated conditions, he has given it an entirely different direction, namely, the desirability of mono cropping under each canal outlet/ distributory for a more efficient scheduling of water release in a canal system. This idea of uniform cropping pattern is not favoured by R S Gill, who draws attention to varied factors that go into the determination of crop pattern by a farmer.
