Market-wise, the distribution of stocks has important implications with trade in a strong position to dictate prices. If despite the relatively small carryover stock and shortage of quality cotton, cotton prices at the fag-end of the season are keeping below their season's highest levels recorded in January/February, it is mainly because of general expectations of a bumper crop in 1983-89.
