TATA TEA Excellent Performance TATA TEA has produced excellent working results for 1987 with higher production, sales and profits. Profit margins have also shown an impressive rise. The company achieved an all-time record crop of about 49 million kgs of tea, exceeding by 2.98 per cent the earlier record crop of 1985. Sales increased from previous year's Rs 127.54 crore to Rs 136.38 crore, but gross profit expanded from Rs 19.70 crore to Rs 29.54 crore. Even after making considerably higher provisions for depreciation and taxation, net profit is up from Rs 8.45 crore to Rs 11.04 crore. Equity dividend has been stepped up from 30 per cent to 45 per cent including 10 per cent by way of silver jubilee dividend and is covered 7.06 times by earnings as against 5.66 times previously. The company has also announced that the board of directors at its meeting on August 9, 1988 will considered a proposal for a bonus issue. A silver jubilee year award of one week's salary/wage has been given to all the employees, except wholetime directors.
