CENTURY TEXTILES-Diversifying into Basic Industries

CENTURY TEXTILES AND INDUSTRIES' proposal to establish a 400-500 MW thermal power station and to operate it as base lead station has been accepted in principle by the Rajasthan government. The central government, however, has not yet taken a final decision as to whether power projects will be allowed in the private sector and if so, what would be the basis of fixing the rates of power and other terms and conditions governing the project. The government has granted a letter of intent to the company for setting up a sponge iron project with a capacity of 3 lakh tonnes per annum at Chandrapur in Maharashtra. The company has yet to receive necessary permissions from the state government. Meanwhile, the company has been informed by the central government that its proposal for upward integration to make steel strips is not as per its present guidelines.
