Face-Saving Gesture ON October 1, the Rajasthan government passed an ordinance to prevent 'sati' The legislation seeks to strengthen the existing laws intended for the same purpose and also to provide for more effective prevention Of the glorification of the act. The ordinance has been hailed by all political parties many of whom, however, have pointed out that for it to be really effective the centre should take similar steps.
