STOCK MARKETS In for an Overhaul THE stock market continues to be in the news but certainly not because of the slump in equity prices. What has kept the market in the news recently is the continuing dialogue between the authorities of the stock exchanges and the union finance ministry for strengthening the institutional and organisational framework of the secondary markets to ensure their smooth and efficient functioning in order to be able to inspire confidence among investors and thereby help mobilise through the capital market an increasingly larger share of household savings as envisaged in the Seventh Plan.
