COTTON Backtracking on Exports THE union minister of state for textiles Ram Niwas Mirdha told newsmen in Bombay on June 22 that in view of the tight supply position and the consequent sharp increase in prices the government would not release the balance quota for the export of staple cotton during 1986-87, nor would it raise the export ceiling for cotton yarn until it had been satisfied about the domestic availability and price situation after a thorough review, Indeed, the cotton scenario has undergone a phenomenal change since the announcement of the export quotas.
