Fertilisers Imported Glut
THE fertiliser industry is facing serious pro-blems because of mounting inventories. The continued high level of imports in the face of a significant step up in domestic produc-tion and not so buoyant demand during the last two years have led to a situation of glut. The total inventories held by the industry as on April 1, 1987 were estimated at about 3.5 million tonnes, more than double the coun-try's buffer stock requirement of 1.5 million tonnes.
