Medical Education: Number or Purpose?
IN his article, 'Private Unaided Engineering and Medical Colleges' (EPW. April 5. 1986) V N Kothari analyses only one dimension of these professional educational institutions, i e, number, and hence entirely misses the more important point of the purpose and relevance of the education imparted in these institutions. The question is not whether we need more doctors but what kind of doctors we need.
