Unwarranted Subsidy to Vanaspati IF one were to piece together official pronouncements relating to the various aspects of the oilseeds economy one would get the unmistakable impression that the government is fully seized of the basic issues involved. But the measures taken from time to time to deal with these issues have proved to be of little avail so far. There has been no breakthrough in bringing about a sustained increase in production to lift the per capita availability of edible oils/fats to anywhere near the minimum nutritional standards.
