But the measures taken from time to time to deal with these issues have proved to be of little avail so far. There has been no breakthrough in bringing about a sustained increase in production to lift the per capita availability of edible oils/fats to anywhere near the minimum nutritional standards. Whatever increase has taken place has been due essentially to the high level of edible oil imports involving massive foreign exchange expenditure. Oilseeds production in 1985-86
