On the price of Rs 2,800 for this very minimal shelter the beneficiary is required to make a down payment of Rs 560 from a loan which he will be helped to get from a public housing finance body at 12 per cent interest repayable over 20 years amounting to Rs 2,800. The beneficiary will be required to pay Rs 25 per month towards repayment of the loan and another Rs 5 per month for maintenance charges to the sites and services implementing authority. Therefore, the percentage of income spent on shelter (if he is earning between Rs 201 to 300) will be 15 to 10 per cent per month. He may also avail of a home improvement loan of Rs 1,000 on which repayment charges are Rs 11 a month.
