Rs 75 crore Electronic Component Development Fund (ECDF) to provide concessional credit to the component industry. The idea was originally mooted at a seminar organised by ELCINA in February 1983. It was subsequently supported by the Planning Commission working group. Unfortunately, the latest annual report of the Department of Electronics for 1984-85 has not spelt out any strategy tor the growth of the components sector. In view of the ambitious Seventh Plan target fixed for the electronics industry, there is an imperative need to formulate a detailed strategy for the development of the component sector on sound lines.
