Sahebganj Massacre of the Poor

CPI(M) Never Blames Its Cadres I WAS surprised to go through the piece of comment entitled 'The CPI(M): Blaming the Cadres" (April 27).
Firstly, I never used words like 'stepmotherly' or 'discrimination' in my writings and speeches. I meticulously use the word 'injustice' of the Central Con- gress(I) government towards the State of West Bengal. This they do on political grounds. We are vehemently in opposition to the Congress(l) rulers at the Centre and their anti-people political and economic policies. And the rulers at Delhi too do not want the democratic process we have unleashed in the political, economic and social life of our state. This is the cause of their injustice regarding allotment of financial share, setting up of industries, etc, in West Bengal, Secondly, I never said that the cadres arc to be blamed for our adverse results in Lok Sabha elections on certain areas. I said: it is due to the failure of the leadership at the state, district, zonal and local level to educate properly the cadres who have to politically reply to the Congress attacks. Rather I defended our cadres by refuting the view that our party and the cadres are getting 'isolated' from the people. I said: our cadres do not live in the skies, they live among the people and they and the party are not isolated from the people, but they are not equipped to properly answer the political questions.
