Tamil Nadu Congress (I) Stages Comeback A Correspondent writes: TURNING pre-poll predictions upside down, the Tamil Nadu electorate has returned the AIADMK to power, and its ally the Congress(I) has doubled its strength in the state assembly. The DMK which contested the election in alliance with 13 parties including the two left par- ties and was expected to improve its position in the assembly, has been left with only two-thirds of the seats it had in the dissolved assembly. Out of the 232 seats for which assembly election was held, the AIADMK won 133 seats, the Congress(I) 62, the DMK 20, the CPI(M) 5, the Janata party 3, the CPI 2 and others 7, The Lok Sabha results showed the same pattern. Out of 38 seats, the Congress(I) won 25, AIADMK 12 and DMK 1.
