Bhopal Tragedy WE wish to express our profound grief and shock at the recent tragedy at Bhopal caused by the poisonous gases leaked on the night of December 2 and 3 from the pesticide plant owned by the Indian sub- sidiary of the American multinational corporation, Union Carbide. The toll of the tragedy to this date already amounts to more than twenty-five hundred dead, several thousands on their death-bed, tens of thousands afflicted with permanent disabilities including blindness and lakhs affected physically, psychologically, socially and economically. It is world's worst industrial accident in history.
