Losing in a Seller's Market THE Cotton Corporation of India has gone deeper into the red. During the cotton year ended August 1983 it incurred a loss of Rs 25.14 crore on its operations comprising domestic purchases of 9.71 lakh bales and sales (including exports) "of 12.11 lakh bales. That this loss is less than the previous year's figure of Rs 28.65 crore is no consolation. The corporation's accumulated loss amounting to Rs 75 crore is more than nine times its paid- up capital of Rs 8 crore. Only a public sector agency can afford to indulge in such financially ruinous operations and still stay in business.
