Fertiliser Industry An Overview
GROWTH IN CONSUMPTION ORGANIC manures have been a traditional source of plant nutrients in India. It was only since the beginning of the First Five-Year Plan in 1950-51 that sincere efforts were made to promote the consumption of chemical fertilisers in the country as a part of modernising our agriculture. Chemical fertilisers are the vital ingredients of modern agriculture. In 1951-52, consumption of chemical fertilisers was a bare 65,000 tonnes and nearly 90 per cent of it was in the form of nitrogenous fertilisers.
