The inflationary pressure of a few agricultural and agro-based commodities on the wholesale price index had a greater impact on consumer prices, since in the consumer price index compilation the above commodities have the greater weight. Thus on a point-to-point basis, the consumer price index recorded a growth of 11.2 per cent in 1983-84. By comparison, the index had risen by 9.8 per cent and 8.8 per cent, respectively, in 1982-83 and 1981-82. The consumer price index, which was increasing from February 1983, had reached 561 in November 1983, recording an increase of 11,8 per cent during March-November 1983
