This is precisely what is happening in the West just now; huge ethylene plants are being broken up and sold in less vulnerable capacity sizes. Of course, some modern technologies are 'lumpy' in the sense that they cannot operate below a certain size and the domestic market may not be able to absorb the production. But the chemical industry in India is well placed to cope with this problem, provided it is prepared to exploit the good possibilities that exist in the markets of third world countries.
