Environmentalism Comes of Age

January 15, 1983 Environmentalism Comes of Age (By a Special Correspondent) ENVIRONMENTALISM in India has come of age, judging by the response to the first ever National Environment Congress, held in New Delhi recently. It was attended by some 400 scientists and environmentalists from all over the country, and addressed by such luminaries as Mostafa K Tolba, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, M S Swami- nathan, H K Jain, head of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, and T N Khoshoo, Secretary of the Department of Environment.
