Courting Disaster THE attempt by the opposition partie to forge a united front supporting the Akali Dal's demands in Punjab and opposing the Union government's handling of the agitation launched by the Akali Dal is in a shambles. The very cautious resolution on the Punjab situation adopted at the meeting of opposition parties in New Delhi last month was disowned almost immediately by the Lok Dal fearful of the repercussions of even lukewarm paper- support for the Akali demands for the party's support base in Haryana. The BJP had altogether stayed away from the opposition meeting.
