Level and Nature of Work Participation by Sex, Age and Marital Status in India, 1961
Age and Marital Status in India, 1961 Pravin Visaria All the Indian five-year plans have assigned high priority to the creation of adequate employment opportunities to prevent an increase in the quantum of prevailing unemployment and underemployment. To quantify the implications of this objective, it is necessary to obtain reasonably good estimates of the labour force participation rates or the proportion of people who work or seek work. If these rates are available by sex and age, it becomes possible to calculate the number of new entrants into and withdrawals from the labour force.
