Fresh Focus on 'Natural' FP Vimal Balasubrabmanyan NATURAL Family Planning (NFP) methods, the only ones approved of by the Roman Catholic Church, have not been given much importance in national family planning programmes. Because of their high failure rate, the emphasis, especially in developing countries, has been overwhelmingly on contraception, abortion and sterilisation. However, in recent years a rather surprising revival of interest in 'natural' birth control has emerged in the search for methods that 'work'.
