Are the Alternatives Shaping? Romesh Thapar IF our Parliament was the only reflection of what is happening in the country, then we would certainly be without hope. Whether it is Assam or Punjab or the NAM, the catalytic thought within the debate is minimum, and, when we move on to the international scene, the emptiness is so visible that all the party spokesmen unite to praise Indira Gandhi. For what? The organisation behind the conference? For her presiding nonstop over the dull deliberations? Or the language of the consensus documents that repeated what is said day in and day out?
