A 1983 Election ?
INDIRA Gandhi is preparing to do a Jayawardene on us, or so it would seem from the speculation that has begun in the 'inner circles' of the Congress (I) about the possibility of a general election in 1983. Perhaps, political developments in Sri Lanka sparked it off, after the panicky reactions to the rise of factionalism in the ruling party and the drift towards regionalism. If the summer months are too hot, then the winter of 1983 might be ideal for the scenario.
