Poland- No Respite in Sight

Out of 37 arrangements, standby and extended, which were in effect or came into effect during 1981, drawings were suspended with respect to as many as fifteen because of the failure of the concerned countries to live up to Fund conditions. These include Bangladesh, Tanzania, Madagascar and Uganda. Another three countries would have faced the same fate but they .succeeded in renegotiating their arrangements with the Fund. It is significant that the suspensions seem to have been resorted to in the early stages of the arrangements, judging by the tact that the amounts cut off totalled over three-fourths of the aggregate commitments made by the Fund to the concerned countries.
