Beyond Cement

Beyond Cement Hansavivek ASSOCIATED CEMENT COMPANIES (ACC) intends to diversify into shipping. The proposal is still in a very preliminary stage and a decision to embark on the new activity will bo taken only after careful consideration of all relevant factors. The company's projects for installation of additional capacity of 10 lakh tonnes per annum under phase II at Wadi in Karnataka and of 5.60 lakh tonnes per annum at a new location at Gagal in HP are expected to be commissioned in April and October 1982, respectively. The capital cost of these projects, however, has gone up by Rs 21 crore to Rs 136 crore due to increases in cost of machinery, steel, labour and other materials and rates of interest on loans. Planning is in progress to increase capacity at the Mancherial and Sevalia works by a total of 1.65 lakh tonnes per annum. It is also proposed to instal a 6 MW captive thermal plant at Chai- basa works in Bihar to prevent loss of production for want of adequate power. The company has applied to the financial institutions for further loans under the soft loan scheme for financing the modernisation and expansion programmes.
