Several other government officials too perished with them. Three days later another two senior members of the ruling Iranian Republican Party (IRP) were assassinated. The government's retaliation has been swift and brutal. According to the leader of Mojahedeen i Khalq, As- soud Rajavi, at least 500 of its members have been executed and 2,000 arrested since June. Members of this group together with the Kurds have been the main targets of government repression in the last year.
