Rise of Social Capitalism in the USSR

This paper attempts to discuss some aspects of the rise of the Soviet social capitalism in the context of the specific contradictions of the transition period between capitalism and socialism (the first phase of communism) following the seizure of power by the proletariat in a backward capitalist country. The paper owes a great deal to Charles Bettelheim's path-breaking work on the USSR.
