Tea-Good Times Ahead

Tea Good Times Ahead PRODUCTION of tea in September was lower by 12.2 mn kgs compared to the same month of last year, according to figures recently released by the Tea Board. While South Indian tea production, which had been lagging behind right since the beginning of the year, dropped by 5 million kgs in September, the so far encouraging north Indian crop too suffered a drop of 7.2 million kgs. The decline in the north Indian crop is attributed to severe cold. However, cumulatively over the year as a whole, tea production has been better than last year. During the nine-month period ending September, total tea production amounted to 426 million kgs which is around 30 million kgs higher than in the same period last year.
