Coir Exports Unwarranted Optimism
Coir Exports: Unwarranted Optimism THE latest statistics indicate that there may be a setback in coir exports during the current financial year. A rise of around Rs 12 crore in exports was achieved in 1978-79. Shipments of coir and coir products, in April-June 1979- 80, aggregated Rs 671 lakh. In the first quarter of 1980-81, by comparison, they earned Rs 639 lakh. Thus, in the first quarter of the current fiscal year, our exports have registered a decline of 5 per cent over the corresponding period last year. This has happened despite a higher unit-value realisation of Rs, 8,725 a tonne, against Rs 6,830 a tonne. In quantitative terms, our exports shrank to 7,350 tonnes from 9,809 tonnes.
