Persons deputed for temporary outstation work are not provided with lodging, food, etc. It is, however, the plight of the running staff, including drivers and khalasis, which is worst They have no limit on working hours, weekly off, etc. The khalasis are mostly recruited on contractual basis and despite continuous service for years together, they arc denied permanency. Drivers drive vehicles continuousjy day after day and month after month under tremendous physical strain and risk. There is no arrangement for rest after doing a certain mileage as in the railways. The goods they carry are insured, but not their own lives.
