The price hikes in textile machinery have been so sharp that the cost over-runs of mill modernisation projects have been as much as 20 to 30 per cent, creating problems not only for the mills but also for the term- lending institutions. Though the TMMA has attributed the rise in machinery prices to rising input costs, the IDBI feels that the extent of price rise is unjustified. Hence it intends to request the government to look into the cost structure of the machinery producers. Another suggestion is selective liberalisation of imports to take care of immediate needs.
