James Chikerama, the minister in the transitional government who had denounced Muzorewa of running the United National African Council (UNAC) as a 'secret tribal mafia' (and, consequently, had been excluded from the 'black majority' government by Muzorewa), has resigned along with eight other MPs from the Bishop's party, thus reducing Muzorewa to heading what amounts to a minority government. Earlier last month, Muzorewa had attempted to counter the crisis created by Si thole's refusing to join the government by arranging for the discovery of a 'plot' by ZANU men to kill him and had followed this up with arrests of Sithole's followers. It is quite likely that fresh plots might he discovered, involving other fonmcr partners of the 'internal settlement" who have begun to desert Muzorewa.
