Trends and Prospects K Narayanan Nair As part of the national strategy for augmenting milk production, cross-breeding and upgrading of milch cattle has been taking place in Kerala during the lust two decades. The programme moving at a slow pace in the 1950s and the 1960s, has been accelerated in the 1970s, and much effort has gone to improve the coverage and efficiency of the programme, This paper attempts to examine the contribution of animal husbandry and dairy development programmes to the increase of milk production in Kerala.
