New Imperialism Re-examined Britain in the Scramble for Southeast Asia
THE book under review, is claimed, is the first comprehensive study of British expansion In Southeast Asia in a chronological frame and in the conceptual context of Hobson and Lenin's theories of economic imperialism.1 Of the eight chapters, five deal with the factual details of this expansion. The remaining chapters, that is the first and the last two, examine the extent to which these details fit into the Hobson-Lenin model.
