been dominated by the activities of the Jamaat-e-Islami (II) for many years. The student wing of the Jamaat-e-Is- lami, the Islami-Jamiaat-Tulba (Jamiaat) is the only national level student organisation with branches in almost all towns throughout Pakistan. The Jamiaat has many advantages over the rival student organisations. It is efficiently organised, has trained cadres and adequate resources and has established a continuity of leadership. In fact the Jamiaat has provided cadres for its parent party the Jamaat- e-Islami. The most recent example was during the March 1977 elections when three former Presidents of the Punjab University Students Union and ders of the Jamiaat were given backets by the JI for the Punjab Provincial Assembly elections. In fact it can be said that the student wing of the JI is its strongest wing. During the PNA-led agitation of last year the Jamiaat played an important role and was extensively involved in sabotage and other violent activities.
