Every year several crores of rupees accrue by way of income from vast Wakf properties. Today, all this amount is spent either on conducting madrasas (where elementary religious education is imparted) or is pocketed by corrupt mutawallis (those in charge of Wakf properties) in collusion with the members of the Wakf boards. These Wakf funds, after setting apart a part of it for madrasa education (there is considerable scope for improvement in this system of education also), could have been gainfully employed for generating employment potential.
