US' SUGAR producers will receive 13.5 cents a pound under a US government programme announced last month that increases import duties from 1.9 to 6.1 cents a pound, on top of a world price of 7.4 cents per pound (including transportation from Carib-bean ports). The duty will rise and fall inversely with the world price, in order to keep the US producer price at 13.5 cents.
