While offering his reactions to the papers and the proceedings of the seminar (Introduction, p XVIII), he appears to have realised his mistake, but is ambivalent about admitting it Since his misgivings about the lack of a positive relationship between irrigation and double- cropping has given rise to unnecessary research (including a PhD thesis) in this area, the reviewer may point out that the relationship can remain masked in a single variable analysis.
