As no action was taken by the landlords by November 11, the Sanghatana contacted the Labour Commissioner's office and requested him to come to Sujlegaon to implement the order. He agreed to send the labour officer on November 16, and accordingly sent notices to the landlords. About 150 women came to attend the meeting in the panchayat office on November 16. In the meeting, the Sanghatana presented to the labour officer, a list of agriculture labourers and their past dues. The labour officer refused to interview the women, and the landlords presented a false register which did not contain the names of the striking labourers. The Sanghatana refused to accept this register and demanded an investigation by the labour officer. The labour officer took the side of the landlords and left without making any efforts at mediation. The women workers were very-angry and wanted to gherao the landlords. The Dy SP was present with rifle-wielding policemen and forced the workers to disperse.
