Onward, World Bank Soldiers

THE Annual Report of the World Bank for 1977, as has become inevitable under Robert McNamara, discloses further progress in the operations of the Bank. Approvals rose from US I 4.98 billion in the Bank's fiscal year 1976 to $ 5.76 billion in 1977 and disbursements from $ 2.47 billion to $ 2.64 billion. There was a small fall in IDA's approvals (from $ 1.65 billion to $ 1.31 billion) mainly because of a brief delay in the replenishment of IDA's funds, but disbursements went up modestly from $ 1.25 billion to $ 1.30 billion.
