Pakistan-Indefinite Postponement of Elections

September 24, 1977 MOST of the leaders of the present government at the Centre were political prisoners during Emergency; if not they, certainly a large number of their followers have direct experience of the power and methods of the police. The way the horrors of police treatment of political prisoners were highlighted in the days following the March elections had led people to believe that the new Janata government would at least make a gesture of pruning the power of the Indian police. Such has not been the case.
