Aluminium-Short and Long of It


It is true that in respect of certain commodities the increases were large because the levels reached in March 1976 were unusually low. However, except for oilseeds and edible oils, the index number of none of the commodities was below 130 in March 1976 with base of 1970-71 = 100. And for oilseeds and edible oils the rise over 1970-71 was relatively low because in that year prices of oils and oilseeds had been unprecedentedly high. The index number for these commodities in the old index (1961-62=100) was level touched by no other commodity-
