Inside the Janata Party Romesh Thapar THERE'S an unreal feeling about living in Delhi. The Janata party is in power, but the impression created is that the old order continues. Charan Singh, and his fellow 'conspirator' Nanaji Deshmukh (the real boss of the RSS cadres!), talk endlessly in private and public about the lessons of the Emergency. There is one obvious lesson they failed to note: that Delhi cannot be served by dumb satraps in the states. Indira Gandhi's manipulative politics lived on such subservience and ended on the rocks. The Janata party is sought to be taken in the same direction by its aspiring dadas.
