 ASSAM No Left Turn THE 'Janata wave' during the last Lok Sabha elections did not touch Assam. Of the fourteen seats, the Congress won ten and the Janata three; the other seat was won by a candidate backed by Janata party. As usual, the Congress banked on the Muslim and the tea-garden votes and reaped rich dividends. In his days of glory during the Emergency, Dev Kanta Borooah used to boast that the Congress would rule Assam so long as there were Muslims and tea- garden labourers in the state. Till now, he has been proved right.
