Of Those Who Cannot Remain Unmoved
My Years in an Indian Prison by Mary Tyler; Victor Gollancz, London, 1976; pp 191.
MARY TYLER'S book has come to India at the right time. It has come at a time when the various restrictions on the press and the media which had been imposed during the period of the internal Emergency have been lifted. More important is that it has come when the atmosphere of terror and repression which had been built up from 1970 onwards and which culminated in the declaration of the Emergency has been substantially removed. For the first time in many years, the Indian people will get a chance to hear the story of the witch-hunt of communist revolutionaries (popularly known as 'Naxalites') in India.
